--- This is something I made when I was very new to R, this is now trivial ---
I decided to examine the distribution of abject poverty by geographic region. The data source is a World Bank PovCal dataset which I cleaned to visualize with plotly for R.
The below graph shows number of people per region living under 1.9 USD (PPP) per day:
The first thing I notice is the tremendous decrease seen by East Asia and the Pacific.
In 1990 this region contributed over half of the share of people in extreme poverty, but by 2014
this became under seven percent.
To visualize this better, let me produce the same plot, but with cumulative values;
